Concept and Content.
Moving-Zen blends the teachings and philosophy of Seiki Juku Karate with the japanese technique of "Hoshin" Life Planning - sometimes called Breakthrough thinking or Management by Compass.
Sensei F.T.Perry's "The Complete Karate Handbook" captures the essence and enduring value of the timeless art of karate which he calls "Moving-Zen".
The Physical and Mental training of Moving-Zen are applied to build personal confidence, a clear mind and well toned physique.
Concept.
Sensei Perry, describes karate as "Moving-Zen." It also translates as the "way of the empty hand".
"Repeated and concentrated control of movement rids the exponent of self consciouness or nervousness and induces a state of mental calm."
"Empty hand symbolises the open-mindedness and spirit of the student's attitude. One with an empty hand is incapable of holding onto pride, prejudice or selfish desire."
"Hoshin" Life Planning is a structured approach to answering the questions "where am I, where could I go and how will I get there?" Crucially it also provides simple tools for tracking progress against your life goals.
Seiku Juku or "True Spirit" karate blended with "Hoshin" or breakthrough thinking is the basis of Mind Body Life "Moving-Zen."
It delivers a holistic programme for total fitness and success as you define it.
Content.
A group martial art fitness session will follow the traditional structure:
1. Kneeling and Breathing slowly or Seiza which "induces a state of relaxation and control which improves the ability to centre the mind."
2. Warm-up callisthenics with stretching to protect the body and relax the muscles for maximum efficiency.
3. Strength and stamina workout incorporating press-ups, sit ups and squats plus kicking and punching bags and the practice of basic technique.
4. Kata - slow concentrated movements which become the heart of "moving Zen" as we eliminate everyday trauma from our minds and perform with effortless flowing rhythm.
5. Bunkai - revelation and explanation of the self defence applications within the kata. We adapt the techniques for street scenarios.
6. Occasional light sparring using skills learned in the kata to test our relaxation, spirit and technique under pressure.
7. Warm down and reflective meditation in seiza.
Hoshin Planning takes place on a one to one basis but regular participation in the Martial Arts Fitness sessions is central to the success of the overall process.
